Sigma Nu Zeta Xi Wins Rock Chapter!

Eminent Commander Cole Murdoch and Former Eminent Commander Eduardo Sanchez receiving the rock chapter award for excellence

Sigma Nu Zeta Xi prides itself on consistently attaining excellence and that is exactly what they did when they won their 4th consecutive rock chapter and 6th since rechartering. Our eminent commander Cole Murdoch shares his experience attending grand chapter:

“Attending Sigma Nu's 70th Grand Chapter Conclave was an incredible experience, and I couldn't be prouder to represent the Zeta Xi Chapter at UC Davis. Witnessing our chapter being honored with the Rock Chapter Award for the 2021-2023 biennium was a truly humbling moment. This was our sixth Rock Chapter award since our recharter and fourth consecutive award. This distinguished recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our over 80 collegiate members who have consistently maintained a high standard of excellence in all areas of chapter operations. It is clear that greek organizations are under attack across the country. Nevertheless, Sigma Nu Fraternity is determined to grow success full chapters that stay true to our organization’s values.

I had the privilege of serving on the nominating committee, where I actively contributed to selecting candidates for the next officers of the high council. Although speaking in front of over 400 individuals was daunting, this role allowed me to ensure that chapters from the West Coast are represented at the national level. It was a pleasure to interact with over 400 collegiate chapter officers and engage in meaningful discussions about their successes and challenges.

Zeta Xi Chapter's dedication to academic excellence was recognized both locally and by the General Fraternity, receiving awards for Highest GPA, Largest Manpower, and Top-Performer in Recruitment. The academic award for having the top fraternity GPA on our campus for both the Spring and Fall 2022 terms, as well as Excellence in Phase I of the LEAD Program and the Pursuit of Excellence award for Excellence in Personal Development & Membership Value, further highlight the outstanding achievements of our chapter.

As our chapter moves forward, I have extreme confidence that Zeta Xi Chapter will continue to uphold Sigma Nu's mission, values, and principles through its honorable conduct for many years to come. I am grateful for the memories and friendships made at the Grand Chapter Conclave, and I am excited to see the bright future that lies ahead for our chapter and the national fraternity as a whole. ”

Spring 2023 Brother of the Quarter - Omar Villanueva Jr.

Omar became a Sigma Nu in Spring of 2023 and right off the bat he made an impact in the chapter. Whether it was helping with large scale chapter operations or simply helping a brother with a favor, Omar was always there for his brothers and exemplified what it means to be a sigma nu.

Why did you rush Sigma Nu?

I rushed Sigma Nu because it's a place that's full of respectful, driven and well rounded young men. I believe it's important to surround yourself with these types of people and environment to become a better person.

Favorite Sigma Nu memory?

My favorite Sigma Nu memory was our trip to bear valley. It was an awesome experience where you got to simply focus on relaxing, having a good time, and making unforgettable memories with your brothers.

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time I love to fish, cook new recipes and create new things whether it be physically or digitally.

Amid the crazy times all have been experiencing lately, we’d like to shine some positive light on our chapter. The Brother of the Quarter is awarded to a member that exceeds brotherly expectations and lives by our core values of Love, Honor, and Truth daily. This year we want to name this award in memory of our late brother, Blair Fox, who not only taught everyone the power of kindness and respect, but lived everyday to make a positive impact on his surrounding community.

With that being said, we would like to congratulate Daniel Alvarez with this quarter’s special award!

Daniel has been an incredible brother upon his initiation at the beginning of the Winter Quarter. He was elected as our new Sentinel (Risk Reduction Chair), one of the most demanding positions, and has excelled by always putting the safety of our members first. Daniel’s hard work ethic and passion for Sigma Nu separated himself as a caring brother and ethical leader which has earned him the honorable distinction of The Blair Fox Memorial Award for Brother of the Quarter. He is an inspiration to us all. Keep up the great work Daniel, you are taking this chapter to new heights!

10 Year Rechartering Event

On May 11, we celebrated our 10th year as a chapter are being rechartered in Sacramento with alumni across generations of Sigma Nu at UC Davis. 10 years ago an ambitious group of alumni and a brave group of men decided to start something that had potential to be great. We now have the opportunity to revel in the success and impact our chapter has made on both our community and our brothers alike. In our short time as a rechartered chapter, we have accomplished multiple awards as a result of our mission to do better. With 3 Rock Chapter awards given to top Sigma Nu chapters in the United States, IFC Chapter of the Year from 2012-2015 and 2017-2019, and IFC Chapter recognized multiple times for highest cumulative GPA, Sigma Nu has become home to some amazing brothers who strive to build themselves into even better men.
Our vision and alumni vision is to connect generations of Sigma Nus together to celebrate the traditions and successes of the chapter, ensuring the stability and prosperity of the moral character our active chapter embodies. We wish to spread the Zeta Xi success to our other chapters nationally and to strive for personal growth of each man’s heart, mind, and character, maintaining our true sense of brotherhood. We perpetuate lifelong friendships and commitment to this fraternity and hope to develop ethical leaders, inspired by the principles of Love, Honor, and Truth.

Lead Session with Sergeant First Class King

Special thanks to Sergeant First Class King of the 3rd Special Forces Group out of Fort Bragg for presenting a LEAD session on Team Building and Leadership! Sergeant King presented about the components of a good team and how to create the best possible team for any job.
